Millex Syringe Tip and Membrane Filters

Filtration is the process of removing undissolved particles from liquid (1-100ml) or gas samples.

Filtration is carried out in the sample preparation stage of different analytical instruments such as GC, ICP, AA, TOC, IR, NMR and spectroscopy, especially HPLC and UHPLC.

Filtering sample and mobile phase solutions prior to analysis is important in order to prevent column and frit clogging, to protect device parts such as detectors, pumps, valves and to prevent high working pressures. Failure to perform proper filtration may also result in low analytical reproducibility results and technical failures in the instrument. It is recommended to apply filtration in the sample preparation step, to obtain accurate analytical results, to prolong the column life at which chromatographic separation takes place and to protect your device.

Syringe Tip Filter Selection:

In the selection of filters to be used in sample filtration, sample volume and column filler size are taken into consideration. The diameter of the filter should be chosen according to the sample volume to be filtered and the pore size should be selected according to the work to be performed and the size of the column filler used.

The sample volume and the size of the column filler are taken into account in the selection of syringe filters to be used for sample filtration.

Selection of Millex Filter Size

Numune Miktarı    Millex Filtre Çapı
< 1mL                             4 mm
1-10mL                            13 mm
10-100mL                         25 mm
10-100mL                        33 mm

High Flow Rate

33 mm diameter Millex® filters have 20% larger surface area than 25 mm diameter filters. Therefore, the sample with a significantly higher flow rate and filtration capacity
filtering.

Stems

High density polyethylene or polypropylene

High throughput

Thanks to a maximum body pressure of 10 bar, it enables faster filtration of solutions.

Different Membrane Options

  • The Millex LCR filter contains Merck Millipore's “special” hydrophilic PTFE membrane and is HPLC-certified for low levels of UV-absorbing material. It provides the cleanest sample for our chromatographic analysis.
  • Durapore (PVDF) filters have high flow rate and low protein binding.
  • Due to their high chemical compatibility, nylon filters can be used with both water-based and organic solutions.
  • Millipore Express PLUS (PES) filters offer sample filtration with a high flow rate and filtration capacity.
  • MF-Millipor mixed cellulose ester (MCE) membrane is a commonly used general purpose filter.

Low Soluble Material, Low Binding

Different membrane and body alternatives guarantee chemical compatibility with a wide range of samples and solvents.

Membrane Types
Durapore PVDF (Poliviniliden Diflorür)

  • The minimum interaction between the filter material and the sample has maximum recovery.
  • It shows wide chemical compatibility with hydrophilic PVDF membrane.
  • 33mm diameter Millex Durapore filters have high flow rate and high filtration capacity thanks to their larger surface area.
  • Protein binding capacity is very low.
  • Available in 0.2um, 0.45um and 5um pore diameters and 4 different disc diameters, 4, 13, 25 and 33mm for different applications.
  • 4,13 and 33mm filter diameter alternatives provide minimum product loss.

Application Areas

  • Sample filtration before UHPLC, HPLC, mass spectrometry
  • Biological sample and protein filtration
  • Solvent Filtration

Express Plus PES (Poliestersülfon)

  • It is a fast flow membrane with low protein binding capacity without interfering with the sample and causing sample loss.
  • The high throughput PES membrane allows rapid filtration of large volumes of samples.
  • Available in 0.2um and 0.45um pore diameter and 2 different disc diameters, 13mm and 33mm for different applications.
  • Wide chemical compatibility

Filtration of Multiparticulate / Viscous Samples

HPF Millex filters are multi-layered. It is a grade pre-filter and membrane filter that allows high-efficiency filtration of viscous or high particle load samples.

  • Pre-filtration with HPF Millex multilayer filter prior to conventional membrane structure minimizes sample loss.
  • The HPF Millex multilayer filter removes large particles and prevents clogging of the other membrane filter structure.
  • Filtration is much faster than other filter types.
  • The HPF Millex multilayer PVDF filter has excellent compatibility especially for tissue culture studies and filtration of biological samples.
  • HPF Millex multilayer filters are suitable for general laboratory filtration and filtration of samples containing large amounts of particles.

Applications

  • Analytical sample preparation
  • Wine analysis
  • General particle removal
  • Especially recommended for pre-filtration after dissolution
