Benzalkonium chloride is also named alkyldimethylbenzylammonium chloride and ADBAC. Benzalkonium chloride has quaternary ammonium groups and is used as cationic surfactant and phase transfer agent.
The chemical industry has three main uses as biocide, cationic surfactant and phase transfer agent.
Benzalkonium chloride is commercially known as BC50, BC80, BAC50, BAC80.
Scope of application
A 10% solution (or more) of benzalkonium chloride is toxic to humans, causing irritation to the skin and mucous membranes. Studies have shown that the gentoxic effect of benzalkonium chloride [2] and causes allergic reactions. Therefore sensitive analysis is important.
