Analysis of Tin (Sn) in Plastic (PE) Samples using EDX

Tin is a gray-white metal. Tin and tin compounds are used as solder alloys in the electrical-electronic industry and in general industrial applications; as a protective coating on packaging, kitchenware and other metals; and for various applications in glass, paint, plastic, textile industries as well as in dentistry.

ICP method is widely used for analysis of tin element. In this method, sample preparation processes are needed. X-Ray Fluorescence Spectrometry is a method that allows the sample to be analyzed directly without any sample preparation procedure. In addition, the sample can be used again after analysis has been performed.

The purpose of this study is; to determine the Tin element contained in the plastic samples at the determined LOD value. Shimadzu EDX-7000 Energy Dispersive X-Ray Fluorescence Spectrometer (EDX) was used during the study.
